An early info piece on this one because I saw a few questions on Facebook and Twitter. Faith No More are on stage at 23.30 CET on Saturday 7 July for this one – just after Marilyn Manson.
Sonisphere have confirmed that the UK leg of the touring festival, which was to have featured Faith No More as headliners, has been cancelled.
“Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.
“We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do.
“Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.”
The BBC story went so far as reporting that Queen had announced the cancellation on their official site. But the offending article – which featured the statement “It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012″ – does not now feature on the Queen site.
No news yet from FNM but we’ll keep you posted.
Faith No More will top the bill on the Sunday of the Sonisphere UK festival at the iconic Knebworth venue.
Faith No More will give a UK exclusive performance on 8 July on the Apollo stage. Faith No More bassist Bill Gould said:”It was over 2 years ago when we decided to reform and play those amazing UK shows. The good news is, we’ve had a couple of years to improve our skills; moving our song to error ratio down 3.5 full percentage points. Watch out UK, we’re going to do it right this time!!”
The festival also sees Kiss give a world exclusive performance on the Friday night with Queen featuring Adam Lambert headlining the Saturday in a European exclusive.

During the course of an interview with American Idle winner Adam Lambert, who will help Queen thrash their own legacy to bits at the festival, the paper casually reports: “Sonisphere’s line-up, which also includes metal veterans Faith No More, tours Europe before hitting Knebworth on July 6-8, scene of Queen’s final gig with Freddie in 1986.”
Faith No More have previously been strongly rumoured to be playing the French version of the touring festival on the same weekend.
Faith No More headed the bill at the Sonisphere metalfest in Getafe near Madrid last night and post-Slayer slayed the large crowd.
Sonisphere website: “Whether through sobriety, maturity or just a reinvigorated passion for their creation (one that has undoubtedly left a greater legacy on a generation of bands that followed than almost any other), Faith No More looked and sounded the best they ever have. Patton’s earlier stated fears that a reunion would be inappropriate can now be officially laid to rest – this wasn’t nostalgia, it was a truly majestic rock band at the very top of their game.”
Virtual Festivals: “At twenty past midnight, the legend that is Mike Patton stepped onto the stage, itself decorated minimally with just some red drapes, him sporting a dazzling silver suit. His chums had also made an effort to stand out from the black t-shirt & combat shorts hoi paloi, very smartly attired in pinstripe suits with carnations. For a tiny moment, once their welcoming roar had subsided, you could hear a pin drop. And then, for the next hour and a half, they absolutely killed it.”
