Links for a day… (vol. 31) Dublin early reports, Edinburgh reviews and more

  • Roddy wants to live in Dublin. By all reports it was a cracking gig. More later today.
  • Duff McKagan again speaks of his love for The Real Thing.
  • Two more Edinburgh reviews. The List: “Sometimes reunion shows can feel like protracted affairs, you can almost see the dollar signs gleaming in their eyes as petty quarrels and longstanding resentments are held at bay for the length of each gig. Fortunately, on tonight’s showing at least, this is far from the truth in the FNM camp.”
  • The Skinny: “Mike Patton and his men run a tight and very sweaty main set that ticks all the right boxes.”
  • Ticket details for Lima date on 27 October announced on Terra.
  • Mark Bowen from Edinburgh with added band and crowd banter: “Would you give your bus seat up to Bill Gould?”

Reviews
From BBC Scotland here. Sample quotes: “Opening with the John Barry epic “Midnight Cowboy” and quickly following it up with crowd favourites “From Out of Nowhere” and “Be Aggressive”, the band showed that time had definitely not taken the edge off their performance and Patton’s phenomenal vocal range has lost none of its power.”
And: “Towards the end of the set Patton invited an overjoyed girl to join him on stage for a duet, in which she duly took part. Holding the audience together with ease, all arms aloft, Patton’s exchange about sweaty Edinburgh armpits led to a swift lick to his armpit by girl, who was swiftly despatched back to the crowd with an, “nice knowing ya lady, now get out of here”.

Lombardo: No, but that door has never completely shut. Me and Mike will work together in the future, I believe, if schedules permit. He’s great, I love his music, all of the stuff that we’ve done. There’s always a chance.”
  • I stumbled upon this old interview with Mike Patton from Raw magazine on 27 June 1990. Sample quote: “I think I’ve already come close to being a tortured artist and it’s boring.” From the old Stripsearch fan site.

  • The Edinburgh Festival Guide have a great piece on Faith No More as they look forward to FNM’s appearance there on Monday 25 August. • The Limewire blog features a review of the album. Sample quote: “Even the questionable remake of “We Care A Lot,” which features FNM keyboardist Roddy Bottum, has an industrial edge and Mosley’s signature swagger – complete with him joking “about the fact that I can still get paid for doing this song.””
