- Swiss festival site openairguide is running a competition for 2 passes to Rock for People in the Czech Republic on 6 July, which of course features Faith No More as headliners.
- Relatively reclusive UK multi-instrumentalist Tom Vek has included Mike Patton as singer in his “Fantasy band” for The Independent: “Vocals: Mike Patton: The slicked-back-hair charmer from post-metal-thesps Faith No More has the capability to be screaming one second and crooning the next.”

RIP Robin Gibb; Peter Jones

Sad news today of the passing of Bee Gees icon Robin Gibb at the age of 62. The Venn diagram overlap of Faith No More and Bee Gees fans might not be the largest but FNM gained an appreciation of Gibb’s songwriting they might not have had due to the band’s 1995 cover of I Started a Joke – the perfect showcase for Mike Patton’s vocal range and the Gibb brothers’ often overlooked songwriting ability.

Faith No More: 20 years on
This week marks 20 years since I first saw Faith No More live – when they played with Guns N’ Roses and My Little Funhouse at Ireland’s iconic Slane Castle on 16 May 1992.
Here’s the band mentioning the gig in an interview on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball

Sonisphere confirm Knebworth cancellation

Sonisphere have confirmed that the UK leg of the touring festival, which was to have featured Faith No More as headliners, has been cancelled.
A statement on the Sonisphere site read: “It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.
“Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.
“We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do.
“Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.”
Team Sonisphere.
Sonisphere UK cancellation rumours intensify

Thrash Hits, the BBC and now the NME are reporting that the UK leg of the Sonisphere, which Faith No More are down to headline, will be cancelled.
The BBC story went so far as reporting that Queen had announced the cancellation on their official site. But the offending article – which featured the statement “It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012″ – does not now feature on the Queen site.
No news yet from FNM but we’ll keep you posted.

Hi there,
Thanks for all the messages of support of concern over the past few weeks. Not quite back to full health yet but getting there so updates may remain a little sparse.
Anyway, here goes for a brief recap which you may have seen elsewhere.
- No more official tour news yet but rumours abound. None of them seem to have much credibility – for example the much-reported idioteq.com story of a 1992 reunion tour featuring Faith No More stems from an online petition. More hope than expectation with that one I would expect.
- Mike Patton has been busy again and you can check out his vocals on the Guana Padano track Prairie Fire below:
- And Roddy’s Imperial Teen Feel the Sound album continues to pick up plaudits. As retweeted by the man himself, Spin magazine gave ‘Teen’s SXSW 2012 performance a rave review: “it was difficult to deny that we were watching perhaps the most foolishly underrated indie band of the past 20 years.”
- Tickets are available for Imperial Teen’s show in Los Angeles on Saturday at the Satellite.
