Links for a day…(vol. 75)

September 21st, 2010|Faith No More, Links for a day, News|75 Comments

  • Been a bit busy getting married and stuff (: so here’s a few belated updates. Thanks to everyone for keeping the news and discussion ticking over below the line.
    Mike Patton interview with Alarm
about Mondo Cane but also some details on future plans: “Between the second Mondo Cane installment and another tour, Patton isn’t done exploring. His restless nature won’t allow for that. And like usual, he and Ipecac partner Greg Werckman have a full schedule of upcoming releases, including a soundtrack by Daniele Luppi and a new album by experimental-rock studio project The Books of Knots. And after the possibility of even more tour dates from the reunited Faith No More, Patton’s commitments, to be finished in no particular order, include a film score for the adaptation of The Solitude of Prime Numbers, an electronic Fantômas album, another Tomahawk release, the Crudo collaboration with Dan the Automator, and another Moonchild disc with the Zorn crew.”

  • Brilliantly manic video – which just surfaced recently –  of Faith No More doing Jizzlobber in Columbus 18 years ago this week. One of the best live videos I’ve seen of the band in action:
    (Via Integra)
  • Epic (with some En Vogue Free your Mind from the same show)
  • And don’t forget tickets to FNM’s Hollywood Palladium show are still available.

Right, I’m off on honeymoon, see you soon!

Matt Wallace reflects on producing Angel Dust

September 21st, 2010|Faith No More, News|0 Comments

Matt Wallace pops up in the Gearslutz forum to give some great insights into the Angel Dust recording process. Matt, of course, was the producer behind Angel Dust as well as The Real Thing, Introduce Yourself and We Care a Lot.
Here is an extract from his post:
“To answer some of your questions, Jim Martin did not like the direction of AD and referred to it as “gay disco music” and that, coupled with his father dying just prior to making the record, the big booted fella who was supposed to bring the 6 string sludge to the table was unable. Bill Gould, the bass player, and I did many demos at his home (based upon live studio recordings of the primary players, Bordin on drums, Bottum on keys, and Gould on bass) and he and I worked out many of the guitar parts. I can’t remember exactly but I believe that Bill played on about 60-70% of the guitars. The band were really at odds at this point. Patton, Gould, Bottum, and Bordin and I would track the stuff and then they would leave. Martin would come in after they had left and play guitar. The following day the band would come in to listen to what Jim had recorded and were furious! This lead to many, many heated phone conversations between the band (Bill especially) and Jim Martin.”

Cheers to Integra for this find and also for tracing this Studio Expresso video interview with Matt.

Billy and Roddy speak about Faith No More’s Chile finale

September 11th, 2010|Faith No More, Tour dates|39 Comments

Faith No More will play the final show of their reunion tour in Santiago, Chile on 5 December.
More details have emerged with both Bill and Roddy doing interviews in the Chilean media, while Puffy is slated to give an interview on Chilean radio station Sonar FM on Sunday at 17:00 local time.

Bill tells La Tercera: “Yes, this is definitely the last show of the tour and we’ll visit the one country in South America. It will be very cool, very big. It’s our best finish, with nothing negative, no fights and cancellations. Then everyone will continue with their projects.”
Bill also speaks of his plans for a party in Chile, that the concert will be the greatest of their lives and that they will record a DVD or CD.

Bill also speaks in the last paragraph about his thoughts on the pros and cons of a new album. Here is the original Spanish quote, if anyone want to offer a proper translation that would be much appreciated because I don’t understand my Google-translate comprehension on such a delicate matter: “Nunca pensamos en hacer un nuevo álbum, porque originalmente sólo queríamos tocar. Pero en mi opinión, grabar un álbum era una gran idea”, relata. Luego acota: “En este reencuentro, siempre la relación entre todos fue muy buena, porque nos conocemos bien. Pero tenemos a momentos una relación bastante complicada, aunque diría que, como trabajamos juntos, todo termina pasándose y resulta algo positivo. Es muy extraño volver tras una década”.

Roddy is more emphatic about the future of the band after the show in his interview with Terra: “Terra: After this show are there any plans to do anything in the future? Roddy: No.” He reveals that an Imperial Teen album is imminent and that he will work on music for television and films. In a similar vein, the Tercera article reveals that Bill wil continue with Kool Arrow as well making music for a Macedonian animated film.

Meanwhile, tickets for the show on sale on 12 October from Punto Ticket.

Thanks to 3d-alex and Praxia for alerting me to the interviews and apologies if anything gets lost in translation.

September 11th, 2010|Faith No More, Video vault|1 Comment

I haven’t done one of these for a while and was inspired when watching VH1’s 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs which featured Epic at a lowly 54.
But first, given today’s announcement, some Chile memories:
Midlife Crisis 1993

Back for Good/I Started a Joke
Faith No More getting mobbed in Santiago last year
That VH1 countdown [Warning: Warrant Cherry Pie is featured in this clip; Epic bit started 4:11 in]
And Faith No More playing What a Day on the old MTV Europe show Most Wanted with Ray Cokes from March 1995:
Same song, on UK’s Channel 40s seminal Friday late night show The Word:
