Links for a Day…(vol. 68): Mondo Cane in Florence, FNM in Poland 1993, Lovage news

  • First video of Mike Patton and Mondo Cane in Florence [the Italian city not the English singer] last night.
  • Somewhat surreal video from the Milan local government of the pre-gig meeting between Mike and the Mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti [the name may be familair to football fans; as well as being a successful if somewhat right wing politician in her own right, she is the sister-in-law of Massimo Moratti, owner of European champions FC Internazionale Milano].
  • (Hat tip alienvisionary on Twitter and Renaud in comments)
  • And Mike meets another dignitary after the show, Lusty.
  • More Lusty, from her Consequence of Sound interview with Kid Koala, some Lovage news: “The Lovage music is done for the most part but we’re just waiting for Mike and Jennifer to get together and write again.”
  • And finally some Faith No More – remember them? – from back in the day. Poland in 1993 to be exact. (Thanks to porcelaine74 on ye olde Twitter for the info).
  • (Great intro and I’d kill for one of those robes)
  • Another full Faith No More concert on Vimeo: Faith No More at Rock in Rio II in 1991.

  1. Renaud says:

Thanks ! I shot this one in Florence during the encores http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuL7quLeB9g

  2. Ben says:

    Thankyou God for this music

  3. П.74 says:

    Thanx for milano updatde!
The robes were fantastic and Donna Summer too ;)
    Graet great fun it was.

  4. mouse says:

Had a not-so-good morning but the robes really brought my spirit back.

  5. Sophie says:

Florence is a lovely city, I wish I had been able to go:( It would have been amazing to see this show in a place like that in Italy. Love Italy so much.

  6. HA. Dignitary … of booze!

    :)

  7. Firsa says:

Anyone have the setlist for Florence?

…and I can’t wait to get home and be able to see what that mirror ball is all about :) Crazy guys…

  8. Renaud says:

@Sophie : That’s exactly why I chose Florence among all the other shows (I live in Belgium). Such a beautiful city, it seemed like the perfect place to go and see Mondo Cane with my sweetheart, and it was indeed a lovely and romantic journey.

@Firsa : same setlist than the nights before http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/mike-patton/2010/fortezza-da-basso-florence-italy-3d45127.html

After seeing Mike with FNM 10 days ago at Dour Festival, I was once again blown away. Is there anything this guy can’t sing ? Eagerly awaiting Lovage 2 and the next Fantomas…

  9. Megan says:

@Renaud – I don’t think much could top seeing Mondo Cane in Florence in terms of romantic. I would love for the tour to come here, and I think it would be amazing, but something about the ambiance and the setting in Italy seems too tough to beat. Glad it was worth it for you.

Super excited about new Lovage, too. Hopefully Patton and Jennifer Charles can finish up once he’s done touring with Mondo Cane. Early holiday present, perhaps?

  10. Jeff says:

Hey everyone – just curious, anybody catch on the 10 minute video where Patton meets the Mayor of Milan, she comments that he is married to an Italian woman (therefore able to speak fluent Italian), after which he says “I AM” …… I could see just saying this to move the conversation forward, etc – but I wonder if he is in fact married to his original Wife – but just doesn’t wear his ring around…… of course it’s entirely none of our business, but just as a fan, I found it curious. Anyone else pick up on this?

  11. Rob says:

@ Jeff … yes I did pick up on this. There is also an interview he did on ‘PopMatters.com’ where again he also mentions he IS married.
That discussion with Letizia was really cool. Being the sister-in-law of Massimo Moratti puts her up there as quite a powerful figure in Italy. They discussed Norah Jones, native trees, Mikes former home of Bologna, Urlo Negro, an expo in Shanghai, and of course the concert and Mondo Cane. A unique video indeed.

  12. Firsa says:

Patton obviously has a lot of clout in Italy, and thats about all I can pick up on. I wish I knew Italian – Google translate works almost as bad with videos as it does with text…!

Side note – anyone see the recent picture question on his FB page? That was total nerdbait for me, and I figured it out: Isla Carmen, in Baja California (…shhhh!)

  13. Ti Mort says:

ADMIN…..what is the story with the Fan based interview that the band was suppose to do. All those great questions everybody sent in…..has that been abandoned? If it hasn’t, when is it going to happen?

  14. Krystalita says:

Jeff: I did notice that, too. I’ve wondered that myself because in a lot of the interviews he’s given since Mondo Cane has been released, his wife/ex-wife gets brought up a lot, and Patton goes back and forth between saying he IS married or WAS married. Can’t help but be curious, but who knows? It could just be a way of maintaining privacy.

  15. Sophie says:

Mike and his wife have been on and off for years. Back on right now, but could be separated again this time next year. I heard it’ an open marriage, but I guess that is a sensible arrangement when you hardly see your partner when he or she is touring. I honestly don’t know how Mike manages so much in one go.

Mike Patton is officially the Superman of rock.

  16. hoggskin says:

So Billy tweets, there will be more news…… Interesting, very interesting……..

  17. Firsa says:

…talk about INTERESTING, read the last line in this blurb:

    http://www.mn.ru/arts/20100729/187959467.html

Can’t wait to see how *that* goes :)

  18. Firsa says:

    So this…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1EG-MKy4so

…is going to be incorporated into a Mondo Cane concert? I’d drink to that!
