  1. Most amazing concert ever… these vids are great but don’t do it justice. I was able to sit in the photo pit after we photographs were done… fucking amazing view, amazing performance and everything else.

You guys who are going are in for a treat!

    xxoo Lusty

BTW for you Americans, I talked to Mike at the after party and he said he’s trying VERY hard to bring Mondo Cane to the USA… so good chance it’s gonna happen. He wants it, badly just a matter of finding the right fit of a festival or venue (ie, something arty)

  2. Nick says:

Hey Lusty just started reading all your stuff and its amazing! Hope he can get this to New York somehow if so hope to see you there! Looking forward to part 2 of the last show of FNM on your blog!

This is just further proof of how unbelievable talented Mike Patton is!

  3. Ti Mort says:

OMG!!!!! My Fiancee really really loves me……for my birthday she gave me 6 count em 6 poster from the tour ( to complete my collection) and…..a copy of the rare and out of print “FAITH NO MORE THE REAL STORY”…..I am so pumped I don’t really know what to do with myself…the book is fucking amazing…outrageous….and relentlessly honest……..PLEASE FNM NEW ALBUM!!!!!!!!

  4. Just A Fan says:

    @ Ti Mort

Happy B-Day! I just got The Real Story just before I went to Milan to see them last year. It IS brutally honest…it really opened my eyes up to the drama surrounding Jim…and filled in some gaps about the shit with Chuck. After reading it I was kinda kicking myself for not picking it up years ago. Awesome read and it covers (in my opinion) the most interesting time period of their career!

  5. Jones says:

Wow, congrats Ti Mort! I dig that book, but I literally read through it in about 30 minutes, haha. As for what you said, Lusty, I really hope that does work out. I’d really love to see Mondo Cane, and I can’t really explain WHY, but I’d like to see it more than anything else Mike has done (well, aside from FNM). Btw, I was the one to ask you about the photo-pit thing… dunno if you got back to me about that yet. :P

  6. Nick says:

    Awesome ti mort!!! Happy birthday!

  7. admin says:

I’ll say the inevitable: Happy Birthday fucker. Thats a great gift. Got the book myself a few months ago; amazing read. Have six posters framed too. Just need to hang them know (along withthe drum skin signed by all the band that Puffy gave me in Bern).

  8. Ti Mort says:

Thanks for all the kind B-Day wishes – Admin I had that t -shirt on yesterday…(funny)…anyway just wanted to say thank you to my FNM family……gosh I feel loved!!!! By the By — if anyone is looking for any tracks let me know….

  9. Megan says:

Happy birthday, Ti Mort. Hope it’s a great one.

It would be wonderful if Mondo Cane would be able to come to America. The music sounds great, and Patton is unstoppable with that voice. He’s so frigging talented.

    Great reviews, Lusty, btw.

  10. bozhenka says:

Hey admin, correct the name of the city, it’s Wroclaw :) I was there, wonderful show! New arrangments, and the sound you can never hear on CD or anywhere else …
Still, I’m missing some more interaction with the audience. You really have to sit/ stand in a good place, otherwise there is probablity, that you’ll never see Patton…

  11. Steve says:

Happy Birthday Kory! I’ve been trying to find that book forever.

  12. Sophie says:

The Poland show was really good, but would have been much better if only I had a seat ticket! but when I bought the ticket it was on the day they got on sale or just the day after and it said seats were already sold out which was odd and I spoke to a few other people who said the same thing happened to them. The organisers obviously wanted to sell the standing tickets first or something, I didn’t understand it as two people I met bought their seats about a month after tickets went on sale.

Okay, so I usually get privileges to get to the front and get a photo pass, but unfortunately I didn’t this time (it was my friend Lusty who got all the luck, but best her than somebody I didn’t know!) so it was pointless me doing a proper review of it all because although I managed a few “sneaky pics” they weren’t good enough. Organisers were really rude and ALL cameras in general were banned and taken away from people by security, it was hell and there was no info anywhere that said cameras were not allowed at all, so people got very annoyed. Security even stopped people taking photos with their ‘phones, too. Standing tickets were really cheap because we were left to stand at the sides and the view wasn’t very good, Mike was standing behind somebody else most of the time and we didn’t get a great view. The intense heat didn’t help, either. If they had been a lot better organized and weren’t so damn rude and OTT with the rules, it would have been a lot more fun for everyone.

I wish Mike would just get back on the road with Tomahawk and Fantomas, because although his performance with Mondo Cane in Wroclaw was great anyway, I always prefer crazy Mike being a proper rockstar, his usual crazy, eccentric style and not a crooner. I’ll be even more excited to see Tomahawk again as it’s been so long now!

  13. Sophie says:

@ Bohzenka – I totally agree with you about the lack of audience interaction with the Mondo Cane shows, I missed that and the people I stood with mentioned the same thing. What I love about Mike’s rock shows is that there is loads of interaction and him joking around with the audience. I suppose that after having seen so many energetic Faith No More shows in the past year, it was rather too tame for me. I like Mike WILD.

  14. iiti says:

About the book… again, if Shirazi is alive, he’d better start the 2.0 book ASAP!
For all you hoping people: Billy just tweeted “THERE WILL BE MORE NEWS”

  15. Sophie says:

It’s got to be about the planned Chile shows, Mike mentioned in Wroclaw that they may still go ahead and Chile do deserve it as their fans are insanely committed. I reckon it’s definitely not over for Faith No More, everyone knows how secretive they’ve been about things in the past year. At first Download was supposed to be their “main” comeback festival show, but then loads of other festival appearances happened so I never bet on it being “over forever” after all this huge reunion success (well, I hope not, they are one of my favourite bands after all!)

  16. Andrew says:

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but MRGOULD posted “There will be more news”!!

  17. bozhenka says:

@ Sophie I agree about those inpolite security procedures, that was really annoying. And although I managesd to take my camera in, I still couldn’t take a single picture, ’cause I sat in the front row just in front of some security guy.
And if this will make you feel better, I think I bought tickets on the second day, and it was seat tickets (front) and still Mike was standing behind a violonchelist, and I could hardly see him. But actually I think it’s not orginizers fault, because it’s Mike who prefers to stand in the middle of the orcheestra and direct everything :)
    Cheers!

  18. Sophie says:

@Bohzenka – thanks for your opinion, you have said pretty much the same as everyone else I spoke to who was there. I wish I had been more organized with the photo pass for me, but I wasn’t too bothered considering we all presumed cameras were allowed in, so I hugely regretted not having chased up the press people to do with the festival in advance if I knew that was going to be the case. It sucked that my hotel roommate got her photo pass and got all the luck and glory going to the aftershow party and speaking to Mike when I got stuck back at the hotel waiting around and wondering where the fuck she was because she disappeared backstage without seeing me afterwards and didn’t even send a text to say what was going on. It was almost as if I paid for somebody else to have a good time and me to be miserable. I was not happy at all at the time and wanted to punch people, especially as we were staying in the same hotel as Mike and Co. but I never even got a chance to speak to him properly and my friend did as she was downstairs in the lobby went he came down, while I was upstairs, etc. Just a major let down. What really should have happened was both of us to have taken photos from in the pit and gone to that party together and networked and socialised with everyone as I always manage to do, not get left out and felt like I wasn’t even wanted there. I did track everyone down, but by the time I arrived at that party it was almost over. I was drunk (met some girls waiting for Mike at the hotel and hung out with them) and really upset and Mike was in a foul mood anyway (some drunken Polish man kept harrassing him while he was trying to eat and drink). After the concert was over, it wasn’t a fun night for me by any means, but like I said, I was kind of due some bad luck after all the good times I’ve had seeing Mike perform with his different acts over the years.

I don’t care so much about it now, but unfortunately I still have big regrets, though, because the money I spent was rather wasted this time and I got no photos good enough to accompany a concert review that my editor for the website I write for would ideally want and she loves Patton as much as I do, so good coverage is important for us.

BUT THOSE FUCKERS SHOULD HAVE ALLOWED CAMERAS IN! That’s what annoyed me the most of all. It wasn’t a prison camp, it was just a concert for goodness sake. Mike Patton doesn’t care about fans taking photos, it was the bastards who organized the event.

Sorry to rant on, but I’ve had a lot of people I met up with in Poland ask me why I was in such a bad mood and looking upset after the concert and why there are no decent photos of Patton this time around, now you know so need to ask me anymore!

  19. Slug says:

The news announcement is probably about the Chile show(s) they promised a while back. Honestly? I hope it’s more North American dates. Please do come back for a proper US tour!

  20. Mike says:

Man, I wish I could read The Real Story, but it’s hard to get a copy without shelling out way more than one should these days. I don’t suppose anyone has a .pdf of it, do they?

  21. Sophie says:

@ Bozhenka – At previous Mondo Cane concerts Mike stood closer to the front of the stage so everyone could get a better view. I’ve seen video footage of the Modena, Amsterdam and Malo concerts he did with Mondo Cane and the stage set up was much better, so it maybe just that Wroclaw show. I have friends in Milan right now going to the concert there tomorrow, so I’ll hear all their stories in the next couple of days. I reckon things will be a lot more relaxed in Italy anyway. I wish I’d decided to go to Firenze/Florence instead, but it was a lot more expensive than Wroclaw.

  22. Sophie says:

@ Mike – It is available on UK Amazon, I looked a while ago to find out whether any copies were still available and I just looked on the site again and this link came up:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Faith-No-More-Real-Story/dp/1898141150

  23. Louise says:

I smuggled my camera in, but with all the rather large security staff around couldn’t really get any decent pictures. It did say (in polisth) on the ticketpro.pl website no cameras were allowed, but i think that was standard, i don’t think anybody expected them to be serious about it.

Just wondering, what hotel were you in in Wroclaw?

Does anybody know if the Mondo Cane posters are on sale anywhere? i kept seeing them all over Wroclaw

  24. Firsa says:

Sophie ~ I’m sorry about what happened to you at Wroclaw, as I think you take some awesome photos. Nevertheless your story gives light to some of the less-talked about aspects of being in the press biz. This all says something about your “friend”, doesn’t it?

I hope you’ll be able to catch another show in the future and have a happier story to tell…

  25. Sophie says:

@ Firsa- I forgive very easily these days once I’ve sobered up the next morning, but that’s because I think it’s pointless to fall out with anyone just because of some bad timing and disorganization at some concert. In music press, journalists are all in competition to get the best article and in the end, everyone is selfish in some way, especially when it comes to covering the same event and getting attention from the band(s) or main singer (in this case, Patton). Only somebody who sleeps with my boyfriend would NEVER be forgiven! It was my own fault for not organizing the press pass, although both of us did e mail the same e mail that was on the website that was supposed to be the press and media contact – and neither of us got replies. I didn’t bother chasing them up simply because I was content with taking photos from the audience, but I got screwed over because no cameras were allowed at all.

Anyway, who cares, there will be much better times to come in the future with Mike’s other bands. I am considering putting together a separate website for all my Faith No More photos and Ipecac related bands, which means Mike’s other projects. I’ll create it when I can actually have the time to create it, which won’t be for a while yet, but once it’s all up I will write the details here.

  26. Sophie says:

@ Louise – it said in Polish on the website no professional cameras or audio equipment. Nothing about small cameras, that is why everyone was so fucked off. One girl was worried sick waiting around afterwards because they couldn’t find her camera security took from her, I really hope she found it.

  27. Krystalita says:

Sophie: Love the website idea! I look forward to seeing it one day…

  28. Sophie says:

It will happen, it’s just a matter of time to do it all, because the photo uploads will take me hours. There are hundreds of them!

Why is there a banner at the top of this page for a dating agency that offers Polish Girlfriends? Anyone else get it come up?

  29. Sophie says:

FANCY A POLISH GIRLRIEND IN THE UK? Well, for all you guys out there, I did meet a lot of very attractive Mike Patton fans in Wroclaw, so go for it you guys out there! Ha!ha!

  30. Firsa says:

My page has mutual fund and insurance ads… I guess that means I’m a nerd :)

Great idea about creating your own site. I say one more FNM website is one too few!

  31. Just A Fan says:

I found the audio of this show! It sounds great and it’s awesome to hear slightly different arrangements of the songs/different instruments more pronounced (the orchestra he played with this time out was a lot smaller than previous shows/album: 12 musicians versus 40 I think?) It’s in lossless “files-are-really-big” FLAC format, so it’s in three parts:

Also, here’s a terrific review of the show:

    Enjoy!

  32. Louise says:

@Just a fan – I’m in the last photo on the review!!

Thanks for the audio, will download when I get home

Does anybody know anything about the Mondo Cane Posters?? if they are available?

  33. Firsa says:

Thanks, JAF! I also couldn’t help but find this amazingly detailed account of the afterparty from Lusty:

    http://ontheblogbandwagon.blogspot.com/

Sh*t, I can barely remember my name (without writing it down or recording it) after two drinks, so I must give credit where it is due…

Scroll down for some great pictures and a very candid and revealing conversation\interview with Patton.

  34. Megan says:

@Firsa – Lusty’s blog post on the show/afterparty was great. Awesome pictures and a nice account of her experience.

REALLY hoping now that Mondo Cane makes it to the States…

  35. hoggskin says:

I also found the audio on Zomb torrents. But you have to be a member. I have not downloaded it yet, so I’m not sure what the quality is like.

  36. Just A Fan says:

    @hoggskin

I actually got the one I posted off of Zomb (becoming a member is way easier than on Dimeadozen or Demonoid, thank goodness).

  37. Nick says:

JAF- awesome find thanks for posting the audio!!!

Lusty- awesome read on your latest expierience at the Mondo Cane show! I ded recommend everyone read it!

  38. Louise says:

Lusty – loved your Blog, great pics, i’m very jealous

  39. Agata says:

I was there too. Great show but I miss more interaction with the audience. When I saw megaphone and Mike asked ‘Everybody Okay?” – as he used to ask at FNM gigs I almost cried. Superb show anyway.

  40. Sophie says:

I won’t be seeing another Mondo Cane show now, too bad. Better luck with his other bands and that shouldn’t be too long wait!

  41. Firsa says:

Lusty I am still absolutely amazed by your memory and your eye (or ear) for detail! It was a very interesting blog post.

Your account puts Mike in a predictably good light so far… but still -I guess what I’m getting at is how can one remember what someone else says, by rote even, (and after a couple of drinks!) hours later… without recording it or writing it down, or paraphrasing? And if that’s the case, did Patton know about it (or should he?).

Pardon my ignorance, and I really shouldn’t care, but this just sort of struck a nerve with me. But I’m not in the “biz”, just a lowly cartographer – so I’m not too informed about protocol for such things like inpromptu interviews.

If it was indeed all cool and “above the table” then I will retire the corner and gladly tip my dunce cap your way :)

    Once again, great account, regardless…

  42. Eric says:

The biggest chord that struck with me was the “FNM is done” comment by Patton. I guess we are not going to see another album and I fail to see how Chile is big news to anyone who doesn’t live there. After all it’s not like I’m jumping on a place to fly there. I really hoped that with the muyscles flexed on this recent tour that the guys would have one more album in them, as much as I’ll love another Fantomas, Tomahwk, Pepping Tom, Lovage, Mondo Cane etc – nothing sounds like those 5 guys when they play music together.

  43. Sophie says:

@ Eric – I totally agree with all that. For me, it will always be about Faith No More, although I am also a big fan of Fantomas and Tomahawk. This past year seeing Faith No More again was just amazing, I’ve had great experiences meeting them all again after so long and seeing so many of the shows. It is rather sad for it to all be over for good, not just for me as an old school fan of Faith No More, but for all the rest of us who have waited all these years for them to get back together.

  44. Firsa – Your questions are valid.

He knew I was a journalist from the start (we spent some time talking about it). I have a very good memory and a fine eye for detail (thank God I learned something in school), but I never recorded anything. Like I said, I just sat down with him as a fan and a journalist and just talked. The quotes are as direct as they can possibly be by just relying on my memory alone, but my blog is NOT an interview by any means and should not be treated as such (ie, take everything said with a grain of salt).

And I’m sure that Patton, after 21 year in the music business, knows anything that he says to anyone could appear anywhere.

That said – I didn’t write on my blog everything that we talked about. Even though it’s my personal blog and not associated with any publications or my work, I still left a lot of things out out for respect for him. The same goes for my time backstage with Faith No More. I have no problems in recording the mundane and ordinary (and in my opinion, Patton dealing with fans is public). There were many things said that could be more personal or revealing and I didn’t/don’t publish things like that.

To put it another way, my blog post was just a taste of what happened but I don’t feel comfortable in letting the world know everything that was said. That will remain in my head :)

  45. Firsa says:

    OK, that’s cool.

  46. Eric says:

Yeah totally understood. It was nice to read your blog post Lusty. It did occur to me that his comment that FNM is done could mean anything from “completely finished” to “for now…”.

I met Mike briefly in Melbourne, Australia in 1999 when he was touring with Mr Bungle. From reading Lusty’s piece it sounds like he’s mellowing as he’s getting older, I suppose we all do. He’s actually the only “famous” muso I’ve ever met. When I met him, I just said “Hi, really nice to meet you” shook hands and let him be because to be honest he didn’t really seem interested in talking, and it can’t be all that fun having total strangers come up to you all the time and introduce themselves – so I left him alone. However when you see clips of him these days, he’s really cordial with fans and Lusty’s account made him seem totally normal.

On the side, I played the Mondo Cane record to my family when I went to Italy recently, it was fun seeing my Grandparents (in their mid 80s) recognize songs that I’m now listening to

  47. Megan says:

Kudos to you, Lusty, for doing the right thing. I gotta give you credit on allowing the personal details stay personal. I’m sure a lot of people would be very quick to get that information and go running the mouth off. I agree that it’s inappropriate to post anything revealing, and of course you want to be able to keep some of your experience personal and just for you.

  48. Eric – I got the impression he meant more like FNM is done, as in, he was done talking about (because that’s what people keep asking) but like Roddy tweeted, never say never. Just.. don’t get your hopes up, lol. But hey, good for Chileans… it must be in the cards otherwise Mike would have never said anything. I thought it was just a Chilean rumour but apparently it was some weight to it.

    Megan – thanks! :) I agree.

  49. Integra says:

my prediction is that if its not going to be a NEW album of NEW songs, then its going to be a NEW album of NEVER BEFORE RELEASED songs which is just as good.

  50. Eric says:

Personally I’d rather some new stuff because these guys have PLENTY left in the tank based on what we saw on the tour.
