Faith No More at Williamsburg Waterfront 5 July set list and video

Subway problems, sweltering temperatures and long queues were all overcome by the hardy bunch of FNM fans who attended the third and final date of Faith No More’s three-date East Coast mini-tour last night. The “surprise song” did not appear but consensus seemed to be that Faith No More again delivered a stunning set with old favourites like Worm and The Crab Song getting rare airings.

Reviews:
MTV: “There may have been some gray patches in the goatees and some awfully worn T-shirts in the audience, but Patton — and more importantly, his band’s approach to hard rock — remains shockingly timeless.”
Village Voice: “The show is loud, precise, surprising, and surprisingly great. They open with a Peaches & Herb cover and then play some thrash with a prominent synth-string line. There are moments of easy listening and intense dissonance, deep soul and Vegas schlock. They can’t keep themselves from indulging in big, glorious, and anthemic moments, but Patton’s quasi-operatic tenor always sounds like it’s about to crack up into laughter.”

    Admin-
encore was: I started a joke, worm, we care alot
    Encore2- stripsearch no chariots

Patton stage dove right on me during crab song

  2. Nick says:

I’ve been to over 100 concerts, I’ve seen some amazing bands and and killer shoes but nothing can compare to last night. 2.5 hours of hell were erased as soon as they took the stage. Patton jumped right onto us last night n was extremely pissed at his mic tech which made him crazier during his performance. I heard him screaming “ur dead to me” I guess to a mic tech. I honestly don’t ever wanna go to a concert again because I know this will never be topped. I literally was ringing my shirt out last night but that only added to the night. The fans were amazing the band was top form especially Patton. I will never forget this night. Thanks FNM

ps. I lost my mind wen the opening noted of worm were played. Lol

  3. booger says:

So no one thought midnight cowboy was the “special song”?

  4. Nick says:

BTW- Rahzel joined them for Chinese arithmetic and We Care Alot if u wanna add that in the set

  5. Sophie says:

Mike always seems to enjoy having tantrums with the techs.
It’s a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it!

  6. Prozac says:

Last night was unforgettable and this is coming from a long time FNM fan who has seem them alot in the past. Met my new buddy Rich when the L-train was out of service. Patton even talked about that fucking L-train on stage. The band was tight and intense…crowd was great. I agree with the earlier post…once the opening notes of Worm hit..the place lost it. I started a joke came off intense….well the entire night was intense..I even heard Patton’s voice cracking which is a rarity but he continued unfazed. The show lived up to all the hype. Unforgettable.

  7. Nick says:

Prozac- best fucking night of my life!!

  8. Red says:

They played I Started a Joke to start the first encore, not Chariots/Stripsearch…how awesome when Roddy played Sir Duke during Midlife Crisis?

  9. Brian says:

Great 3 shows. All I wanted to hear last night was the real thing so I was satisfied early on. Yeah mike was struggling with stripsearch at the end there….he actually is human….another brilliant evening!

  10. MC says:

Nick’s correctipns to the set list are right on. Great show, hot as hell. Disappointed there were no NYC skyline t-shirts left (they all sold out in the first 2 shows??), but other than that zero complaints. Highlights for me were a VERY strong “The Real Thing” and of course “As the Worm Turns”. Why don’t they play that standard at every show?? The crowd goes nuts every time. SMAAAAAASSSSHHHHHHHMMMMOOOOUUUTTTHHHHH!!!!!!

  11. Nick says:

Hahahahah- Sssssssmmmmaaaassshhhhmmmmoooouuutttthhhhhh. That guy was so annoying lol

  12. steve says:

you guys must be talking about Neil Hamburger. I wasn’t at the east coast shows, but he did that shit at one of the San Fran shows. I think I was the only one laughing.

  13. Nick says:

I can see how people would thing Crab Song isn’t the special song but as far as I remember they haven’t played it at all during the reunion. Zombie eaters ,a small victory, riccochet and even falling to pieces which is extremely rare, all made appearances before. What else could the song be? The only crowd favorite that’s left is Eveythings Ruined. If it’s not that then wat else?just speculating lol. Even ugly in the morning made appearances!

  14. Ti Mort says:

Guys…all of their back catalogue is special…but we all know they have been changing things up a little each night with one or two songs….don’t worry….we will know when the SPECIAL SONG has arrived……probably the last show…especially if they are only playing it once…they are going to leave every body hanging on a new track…I AM CALLING IT!!!!

  15. Coox says:

The Crab Song, what the hey! I agree with Nick, this must be what Billy called the Special Song… They hadn’t played it since the last show of the Jim era (1993!). Very surprising choice, you lucky Williamsburgers!

  16. Nick says:

Ti mort- I hope ur right! Starting to lean towards your opinion! Lol

  17. Nick says:

Coox- it was such an amazing performance of the song!! Pattons stage dive sent the crowd into a near riot!

  18. Prozac says:

I hear ya Nick..what a night…Every time Neil said SMASHMOUTH..the guys in my section all yelled..ASSHOLE!!! I’m hoping that NYC T-shirt will be on sale on the FNM site soon.

  19. Goddamn you lucky motherfuckers.

  20. TheDBP says:

Unbelievable performance. By far the best of the 5 times I’ve seen them since 92. Incredible setlist. This truly was a show for the hard core fans, and if they do not return again, this is a fitting, and unbeatable final US show. This was just … Holy shit.

  21. Nick says:

I’m sorry but lucky motherfuckers is an understatement!!!! Lol the funniest thing is that after the dhow I stopped at a store for a drink and on my way out a guy stopped me and asked “was there a rock concert around here tonigh?” me n my friend both said “Yup, Faith No More”. His face looked like I told him his whole family just got murdered. ” Whhhaaaattttttt!!?? No … R U serious? How didn’t I hear about this!!!!????” priceless

  22. That is pretty much the saddest story ever, but also really, really funny.

Although I feel a lot like that guy right now.

  23. Mot says:

I think The Crab Song was probably the special song; only time its been played since they started touring again last year. Other ‘special songs’ include Jizzlobber, Zombie Eaters, Let’s Lynch the Landlord, Falling to Pieces and Death March- all played once. Did they play Edge of the World after Ben (another pretty rare song these days), or does that Edge in the setlist refer to something else?

  24. Mot says:

Oops, just seen they played Falling to Pieces twice now (like Ugly in the Morning and Take this bottle!). My point stands, anyone who gets to see these songs are damn lucky…

  25. Nick says:

Mot-No edge of the world last night.

  26. It's me says:

I had an awesome view of the stage and Mike’s performance had me smiling ear to ear the whole night. I loved the heat and the venue. and when Mike flipped the fuck out on the tech guy it was awesome. But best part? When Mike came back on set with shirt unbottoned…mmm oh my…..<3

  27. Integra says:

I would hate to be that guy. Ive had bad dreams about missing out on F.N.M. concerts.

I dont think that Crab Song was the one off special song.

I predict it will be either…

    “Everything’s Ruined”
    “Jizzlobber”
    “Crack Hitler”
    “Smaller And Smaller”
    “Kindergarten”
    “The “Morning After”
    “The Cowboy Song”
    “Underwater Love”

    or a new song.

  28. MC says:

Mot – unless I blacked out from heat exhaustion, they didn’t play Edge at the end of Ben. I think that’s a mistake in the set list.

  29. Nick says:

U can scratch jizzlobber n a small victory off the list since they have been played at least once on this tour. Not having a show in ur area is torturous enough but imagine TWO in ur area n u missed out on BOTH! My friend and I really felt fir this dude cause we probably ruined his whole year!!!!

  30. Jones says:

The impending skin cancer was totally worth it last night. Wish I could’ve held my position up in the front again, but I’ll live. ;)

  31. Nick says:

Did anyone else notice the awkward start to Stripsearch? It sounded like John started a different song then the rest of the band. Maybe they’re so used to the chariots intro that they forgot how to play it without for a second lol

  32. Billy G Is Not My Lover says:

I’ll also take a stab at Crab Song being the surprise. Don’t think it’s been played since ’95.

If not, then I guess that the surprise will be a novelty cover like the Eastenders theme…. though Kindergarten would suit me just fine :D .

  33. pinkie says:

Booger – they opened the April 13th show at the Warfield with Midnight Cowboy, so it can’t be the “special song”.

  34. Mike Bolger says:

28 comments for a post that went up earlier today and it’s not even 10 AM on the West Coast.

Glad to have you guys back.

  35. Firsa says:

Goddammit. I hate you all :) I’m going to be hating everyone in Europe too. There’s going to be a whole lot of hatin’ going on…

Glad the show was an absolute epiphany – just as I thought it would be. So far the videos look great!

  36. Nick says:

Good news for me and the others who were upset about the NYC shirts being sold out last night!

roddybottum re: the xclusive east coast shirt, sorry, yes, we sold out last night. as a result we’ll put it up on the FNM merch site like, pronto.

  37. Deframe says:

I’d be very, very suprised if The Crab Song isn’t the mystery song.

  38. It's me says:

Hey I noticed that too about Stripsearch and I was cracking up at Mike wigging out at the tech guy…” Can you turn this F*****ing thing up?!!” followed by wild hand gestures. And then I think he got testy with some members of the band for another song. I enjoyed it he is a genius in my book and the energy he had on stage was a pleasure to watch. Thank god for the view I had.

  39. Shawn says:

As has been echoed here, just an amazing setlist. Just to clarify, Billy siad there would be a surprise song, not a new song. Dusting off crab and tearing through it was just incredible. It whipped nearly the entire venue into a frenzy. Plus scrapping reunited for midnight cowby/real thing as an opener? Holy good fuck.

And the Sir Duke breakdown during Midlife Crisis was gold, Red.

  40. Prozac says:

I’m still replaying the concert in my head…it was LOUD but CLEAR. Need to pick up that NYC shirt.

  41. Nick says:

Me too Prozac. As exausted as I was I couldn’t sleep all
night tossing n turning thinking about wat I just experienced lol.

  42. Prozac says:

Hey Nick…just a found a review of last nights show…hope the link works.

  43. Jones says:

I don’t mean to sound like a greedy jackass or anything, but I admit, I’m kinda depressed! Those were my two big events so far this year, and the thought that they might be the only shows I’ll ever seem from them again is upsetting, in a way. Also now I have no shows to look forward to which sucks. None of the bands I really, really like seem to want to tour anywhere near me, if at all. :P

  44. Nick says:

If anyone come across an audio boot of last nights show please let me know. I know it’s unlikely just throwing it out there! Thanks

  45. Jones says:

Also, that reviewer is a numbnuts. Don’t know how you can confuse Midnight Cowboy with Reunited, even if you’re not a big fan of theirs.

  46. Nick says:

    Nice find Prozac! Thanks

I think the first sentence in this post sums it up. The conditions were terrible n in any another situation everyone would be bummed and complaining. The fact that we were there for FNM overcame everything! I didn’t hear one complaint about weather trains or the horrible line to get in. What I did hear was every last word beinh sung or screamed to EVERY song. It was a pleasure to be surrounded by a bunch of hardcore FNM diehards last night!

  47. Nick says:

Ohh and Jones I feel the same way but everytime I think like that I remind myself just how lucky I was to witness these 2 shows. I feel for the rest of the US who have NO shows in the area. I’m truly grateful n I’m sure anyone who was lucky enough to have a show in their area feels the same.

  48. Jones says:

I agree, Nick! I fucking loved the crowd, and the people I met before the show were a pleasure to hang with. The atmosphere was incredible, and every other concert I’ve ever been to felt nowhere near like the show last night. It was just amazing.

  49. Jimmy says:

“We’re planning 1 special song, for 1 performance only in this next leg, though we’re not going to say which show.”

Anyone who doesn’t think the special song was “Crab Song” is kidding themselves.
