- It seems that the Alan Moore project featuring Mike Patton will after all see the light of day. According to Pitchfork, Unearthing, a box set centred around audio of Moore reading a story with a score by a crew of top music figures including Patton will be released on 5 July in the UK and 6 July in the US. You can already pre-order the attractive box set here.
- In more immediate Patton news, Stubbadub have rounded up all Mondo Cane European tour dates. I’l be seeing him in Lucerne.
- New Mike Mondo Cane interview from Exclaim in Canada. Sample quote: “The music directs the emotion. It is so expressive and beautiful; so different than the drivel that is considered pop in the U.S.”
- More Mondo Cane. Reviews (thanks to Firsa in comments for the first one up) from:
Right Where You are Sitting Now – “A perfect summer pop record”
The Skinny – “Mondo Cane is a rare achievement – an adventurous reinterpretation of timeless oldies which will no doubt serve as a rapturous soundtrack to the heady summer months.”
Frantikmag – “Mike’s vocals are completely and utterly earth shattering as usual. His voice is just one of a kind period. There’s really no other artist in this world that does what Mike Patton does and this record is proof of Mike’s beautiful mind at work.”
The Music Fix – “Fans of his previous work will be delighted that yet another musical change of direction has yielded such a compelling and exciting album.”
LA Music Blog – “While the overall concept seemed somewhat capricious at first, the reworked Italian classics offer Patton’s most accessible material to date.” - There’s also a Soundcloud stream of the album (thanks also to Firsa). Buy the album here and elsewhere.
- Mike has also been out and about in the past week. Riding the Zamboni (ice-resurfacing machine Wikpedia informs) at the San Jose Sharks, according to his Facebook:

- Dan’s Faith No More blog has a nice retrospective on the 20th anniversary of the recording of Live at Brixton. Dan also has some nice full streaming video concert footage here.
- Rey emailed me with this bizarre video clip from the popular King of Fighters 94 arcade game which seemingly features a blatant rip-off of Surprise? You’re Dead on the soundtrack. Great find.

I’m hoping to get tickets for the show in Brussel, does anyone know anything more, a venue or something??
Great links!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIXTON!!!! =’)
@Ewoud: No news today but let’s hope for some next week
I’m also searching for the Brussels gig!!

I will upload more streams every single friday
O.K. enough is enough PEOPLE!!!!! Let’s get a petition for a new FNM album going…..WHO’S WITH ME?
I don’t think a petition or any sort of pressure from fans will really make a difference: they either have the songs or they don’t. But I feel your pain…
So I finally listened to Mondo Cane all the way through thanks to the stream I found. I’m very left-brained so this was a hard listen for me – I couldn’t get past not understanding the lyrics and kept attaching similar sounding English words in my mind. One result of this was hearing “smelly mints” over and over again in what otherwise would have been a beautiful song. It was very distracting!
One song on the album overpowered that and really shined for me: “Scalinatella”. Absolutely exquisite… I will probably buy the CD when it drops.
Not sure what to think of the Allan Moore project, though.
I’m positive there will be a new album… even Patton was hinting at it at the Warfield (ie, playing there again next year). They won’t keep playing the same old stuff forever, they just aren’t that kind of band
We all just need some patience and some wonderful Mondo Cane to tide us over in the meantime.
Cheers,
Lusty
Firsa…this isn’t about pressure my friend…as much about moral and support. How would you feel if after more than a decade you reform as a band and a large percentage of the population is pleading…ne…begging for more. The left side screams for more. They will eventually do whatever the hell they want but…..maybe we can give them a helpful push…but yes, I agree only time will tell…….here’s hoping!!!!
Mondo Cane is very good! I wish I knew Italian. :/ I had to translate Violenza after years of listening to it. I was still confused.
Ti Mort – seriously. Just have patience. Call it a hunch, but it’ll happen. If it doesn’t, you can hunt me down
That “Surprise Your Dead” ripoff/tribute is followed by something that sounds suspiciously like Rage Against The Machine’s “Know Your Enemy.” Perhaps the game authors had great musical taste!
O.K. Lusty…if you say so….hey by the by …do you remember on Wed in San Fran in the line up. I was standing with Eric and Wendy. I was with my sister and Shawn E Mac (on this site sometimes). Anyway…I seriously hope your right. Yeah I caught that comment from Tuesday Night as well. “Well do this again next year San Francisco!!!” ……Oh GOD I HOPE SO……
I found that link to the blog about the 20th anniversary of “You Fat Bastards” really interesting due to it featuring a demo of “The Cowboy Song.” Just when I thought I’d heard every piece of music by Faith No More, I stumble across something new like that. I’m a huge fan of that song (it’s quite possibly my favorite FNM song ever) and all these years I never had any idea there was a demo version of it floating around. And it’s kind of interesting that it was one of four demo songs recorded with Patton, but the only one not to make The Real Thing.
Ti Mort… what were you wearing
I think I met Brandon from the boards in the line-up!
(and by boards I mean “this blog” ha ha)
Anyone who was at the three Warfield shows could see the amount of passion the guys were playing with…..it was incredible to watch and emotional at times for me. they are enjoying playing together. Jon even spoke to the crowd and showed us a glimpse of his personality. I mean come on, it’s “The Second Coming” not “The Last Hoorah”
A new album feels imminent…..
I don’t know anything more than anyone else on here about band plans but the signs are positive for new material at least. Puffy exiting the Ozzy circus has to indicate a long-term commitment and even the way the Mondo Cane release and tour was scheduled around FNM plans and vice versa suggests that the give and take is there too. Not sure a petition would make much difference as I’m sure they’re aware of the esteem in which they are held but it certainly couldn’t do any harm either.
Alien_Visionary…..I LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE!!!
Lusty…I was waering a red Texaco shirt with a black and white stripe down the left side. I also have glasses…..charmingly handsome…LOL
Lusty…did you ever find out if you had a concusssion? By the way…your site/blog is very cool!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
