Just too late for the Links for a day earlier but probably worth a post on its own is news that LA Weekly have interspersed some segments of a pre-Coachella interview with Mike Patton they helped conduct for the festival’s CAMP magazine with a review of Faith No More’s Indio SHOW.
Sample quote: “With Faith No More, even though we’re a bunch of old men, what I remember about our best shows is some sort of confrontation with the audience. I didn’t even have to think about it … When we started doing these shows, that element about what I do when I perform came back. It’s not planned, it’s not thought out. I really even sometimes think to myself, ‘Hey let’s just play the show tonight, don’t be an asshole, don’t pick a fight, don’t do this, don’t do that…’ and then things happen, you know?”
Another new Mike Patton interview

Great article…love all the positivity that’s coming out of him recently. And why not? It’s about time mainstream media starts to recognize him, pity it took a Coachella show to do it.
Funny that he was at DEP, I was looking for him on the side hoping he’d come out to do Pig Latin!. DEP still put on a fun show though.
Roddy was spotted a lot too on the grounds (I was looking for the sailor hat but alas could not find him in that mess of people), though his taste is definitely more indie than Patton’s. I have a feeling Patton spent most of the festival with Devito and Lemincello backstage
At least he mention one heavy band. Well, FNM and DEP where the only bands there who play metal or the heavy stuff. But come on, Jay-Z? Mike can find better rap stuff. Anyway, great interview.
Maybe he just wanted to see the duet with Beyonce
Two friends of mine who had VIP wristbands told me they saw Mike watching Dillinger Escape Plan, but I think many fans were thinking that he was going to come onstage and join them and were disappointed that didn’t happen. Apparently he was hanging around the festival all weekend and watching bands. That’s the way to do it!
Quite a few acts that were supposed to play Coachella couldn’t even make it because of this fucking volcanic ash cloud we’ve had here that has stopped all flights, there were a few cancellations. I hope it doesn’t last much longer or happen again, or this Summer’s festivals are gonna be a mess! No way am I going to stop anything from getting in the way of seeing Faith No More and Mike’s solo performances again. Stay positive everyone!
In truth, I don’t think Greg Puciato’s ego could handle Mike coming onstage and doing a song.
