Faith No More Rock en Seine FNM 2.0 videos

August 31st, 2009|Faith No More|0 Comments

For once I’m going to chuck in my own videos here.

Caffeine has been my favourite FNM song for a long time for no more than the bizarre the fact that no matter what I was humming I would always end up singing it (very, very badly) in the shower. And Evidence…I used to hum that too..but until very recently I’d sing “Oh baby I justify” instead of testify. Shame it’s not in French but the Italian version is the ultimate language version of this song as Patton annunciates every syllable in a language he’s loved and hated in.

Oh and Just a Man. Unfortunately the best part of this song came after my battery ran out when Patton challenged the audience to hold the note contest. Guess who won. “Don’t fuckin’ fuck with me”

Links for a day…(vol.31)

August 31st, 2009|Faith No More, Links for a day|0 Comments

Still no video or reviews coming in from Leeds – was anyone there? – but here’s a round-up of some other FNM news.

  • Positive review of Faith No More at Rock en Seine from France 24.
  • Photo galleries here and here.
  • The Sun gave FNM the only 10/10 review in their Reading round-up. (No link as I’ve some issues with The Sun but you can find it prettily easy if you want to).
  • Meanwhile from the Guardian another glowing Reading review. Sample quote: “Yet despite the younger contingent fleeing for Kings of Leon on the main stage, Mike Patton’s band delivered a brutal set that began with a melodica workout (Midnight Cowboy) before flitting between heavy assaults like Be Aggressive and more experimental leanings.”
  • FNM play their final European date tomorrow night in Tel-Aviv Israel. Here is a Jerusalem Post article on the revival of live music in the country which mentions Faith No More.
  • Via clauspupp on Twitter, Mike Patton will not be featuring on the long-awaited Os Mutantes album after all. Story here. And here is some belated video of when Mike P met the band last year.

Faith No More at Rock in Seine video, setlist and photos

I’m on a very slow connection here so have not been able to upload my own videos yet. Until then here is Midlife Crisis from the ‘Tube and and the set list. Was a very good show if a little lacking the intensity of some other dates I’ve seen. Nice venue and a nice festival and its a shame they keep getting big cancellations after Amy Winehouse last year and les freres Gallagher on Friday night.

Faith No More in Dublin: a considered negative review

August 29th, 2009|Faith No More|0 Comments

Dublin’s online music bible State Magazine gives a considered but overall negative review of the band’s appearance at the Olympia in Dublin in Thursday. Sample quote: “You can’t deny the power of the performances here but the band’s self-indulgent side was tiresome first time around and even this euphoric atmosphere can’t disguise the fact that this still holds. It’s a point hammered home when they launch into ‘Midlife Crisis’ and ‘Epic’, both of which are simply sublime.”

Personally I can see the point the author – Phil Udell, who I heard explaining his viewpoint more as a frustrated fan than a media mischief maker on Dublin’s Phantom 105.2 FM yesterday – is making. But I think that rather than being tiresome, Faith No More’s refusal to do anything except on their own terms and in their own way is an essential part of their appeal. And it would have been a betrayal of their very essence if they did peddle a package of greatest hits live rather than seeking to evolve from where they left off.

Faith No More garnered a lot of attention for their slot at Reading tonight despite being up against the most popular band in the UK Kings of Leon. BBC have just finished showing a healthy proportion of their gig – around seven songs  – and a lot of attention has been lavished on their now familiar Eastenders cover. There should be a lot of pro-shot videos making their way online tomorrow.

Set list

  1. Midnight Cowboy
  2. From Out Of Nowhere
  3. Be Aggressive
  4. Caffeine
  5. Evidence
  6. Surprise! You re Dead
  7. Last Cup Of Sorrow

  9. Easy
  10. Midlife Crisis

  13. Gentle Art Of Making Enemies
  14. King For A Day
  15. Ashes To Ashes
  16. Just A Man

Review:
From the good old indie bible NME (they were on their stage after all). Sample quote: “Later in the set, Patton treated the crowd to a singing lesson. “Got that note? Happy with it?” he asked. “Now we’re going to teach you rhythm. Welcome to my world, bitches.”
