Both Tagesspiegel and Die Tageszeitung have posted less than glowing reviews of last night’s Berlin concerts. The former leads with the headline “Faith No More: We Care a little bit” and opens by commenting that FNM’s playing of the Poker Face cover after playing a Barbie Girl cover in 1996 is nothing “more than the re-performance of a faded joke with changed parameters”. Going on, it complains FNM do not change the parameters enough otherwise and while praising Patton’s rich vocals, the reviewer slates Jon Hudson’s guitar playing as “shockingly lifeless” The conclusion they give is that Faith No More are unsure of what role they should be playing in the current pop music firmament which seems , which seems a very oblique and indeed irrelevant comment.

Tageszeitung is also critical of the band, arguing that the “music, with atrocious synth surfaces and slap-bass dullness, is no longer kickass”  but full of praise for Patton’s vocal miracles. It concludes with the pay-off that Patton is just “so damn good” but that Faith No More are now totally redunant.

Please note that these are not profesional translations and gleaned from various translation tools and pidgin German so if any German speaking reader can come up with any better interepretations of the germane German criticisms that would be greatly appreciated.
